“for a long time we didn’t know if we’d ever get to take Lachy home.”

Born at just 30 weeks, Lachy was too small to eat or breathe on his own. At just 1.3 kilos, he was too fragile for cuddles.

When Lachy was transferred to the Special Care Nursery at The Wesley, he needed the nursery’s specialised equipment and round-the-clock care to survive.

Anna remembered: “I hadn’t even seen my baby’s face properly. When one of the midwives said, ‘we remember you, welcome home’, it was such a stress release.”

It was heartbreaking for Anna to leave Lachy. But she knew he was in capable, compassionate hands – because many of his team had also looked after her first son, Harry.

Another 200 babies like Lachy will depend on the Special Care Nursery next year.
Donate today to help keep the nursery’s love and lifesaving care going for them.
